Tours and Travel

Deep South Rivers,  Scuba Fossil and Artifact Hunting Tours, Captain Alec Blalock, bblalock@infoave.net  http://www.deepsouthrivers.com/
Alec guides six-pack trips out of the Charleston, SC area to excellent fossiling holes on the Cooper River.  I have taken a trip with Alec, and it was great fun.  On our trip we saw Bald Eagles, alligators, and tons of other wildlife.   He has a large, covered pontoon boat, and a diver master attends all trips.  We dove in 3' to 6' visibility waters at depths ranging from 20' to 50'.  We found a number of fossils including Megalodon, Mako, Great White, and Tiger shark teeth, and we found artifacts dating to as early as the 1700's.  I recommend this trip to anyone who has advanced open water training or at least 40 logged dives and who is very comfortable with night diving.

Commercial Sites

http://www.fossilnet.com/ High end, prepared fossils by JAMES WYATT (DocPaleo).  This is a highly recommend site especially if you are looking for a rare piece ranging from $500 to $100,000.  Jim has established an excellent reputation in the fossil business over the last 10 years.

http://www.crystal-perfection.com/ Specializing in quality mineral specimens.  Links to mineral clubs and mineral dealers.  A very well done site from another North Carolina dealer.

http://www.earthrelics.com/index.html Earth Relics Company:  A wide selection of handmade jewelry pendants made from fossils, agates, and jaspers.  Every piece is unique and handmade in South Carolina by a friend of mine who also runs the website.  If you want unique fossil jewelry, this is a great source.

The Pleistocene Mammal Shop The Pleistocene Mammal Shop This is a well done website and great place for the purchase of Pleistocene mammals fossils.  They will definitely be one of our competitors, and I have doubts of whether we will be able to compete for the quality European specimens that they sell.  My only complaint is that they do not post prices.  I assume that negotiation of prices will be possible with them.

http://www.e-sharkteeth.com/   Eddies Shark Teeth.  Another great fossil shark tooth dealer with ethics, honesty, and a desire to have a limited clientel.

http://www.megalodonteeth.com/   Steve Alter's Fossil Shark tooth website.  I believe this was the first commercial shark tooth site on the internet.  Steve has a very excellent reputation, a great inventory, and an enthusiasm to match.

http://www.redearthrocks.com/   Fossils, rocks, Ebay auctions, and other cool stuff

http://home.carolina.rr.com/toothsleuth/ Jeff McManus's personal collection and high quality megalodon sales.  Jeff is a competitor and customer, and I regard him very highly in terms of his reputation.  Let him know I referred you if this is the case.  Thanks.

http://www.paleoid.com/  This is a well done website that specializes in the identification of fossil specimens and performing appraisals.  There are some excellent photographs of rare specimens on the site.  The website also offers restoration services.

http://www.fossilforum.com/ This is a new website (9/1/01) developed by Bill C.  Bill has collected fossil shark teeth as long as he can remember, and he specializes in the fossils of Calvert Cliffs.  Bill donates his most scientifically important finds to science.   Don't forget to ask him about his miocene protoceratid (a land mammal with males having three horns , one near its nose) if you write to him.  This is one of his rarest finds and is destined to be in the Smithsonian or another world class museum one day.

www.earlymanimages.com  "is my creative representation of how our prehistoric ancestors lived and the objects they developed and refined.  Each object is one-of-a-kind, working primarily with materials collected from beaches, the desert, and the woods", Dyan Hayes  The site has artwork for sale.

Invertebrates

http://www.entradavirtual.com/echinoids/

http://schnr-specimen-shells.com For the shell collector.  This is one of the best websites I have seen for images of modern shells.

http://www.amberabg.com/   This webpage is full of pictures of invertebrates for sale including   mollusks, trilobites, amber, corrals, brachiopods, crabs, and plants.

Clubs

http://www.tertiary-research.org/ The Tertiary Research Group's webpage.  This is a fossil club/ research organization that has many professional and serious ameteur collectors.  Most collectors in the group specialize in collecting and studying fossil shark teeth.   The group publishes a journal.  The website has a  number of excellent links to other sites, information on shows throughout the world, and an on-line forum.  Very nicely done Rick!

http://www.web2.com/mgs/ The Maryland Geological Society's webpage.  This is an excellent fossil and mineral club with a full fossil collecting calendar, club meetings, a huge list of links to other websites, and much more.  I give it an A+.

http://sea1.odn.ne.jp/ccu79070/   The Japanese Club for Fossil Shark Tooth Research.  This site is written in Japanese and showcases Japanese fossil shark teeth..

Personal and Trading Sites

http://www.reflections-of-the-past.cc/ This is Andy Nethery's website for the trade and direct purchase of fossil shark teeth.  There are over 60 species in the trade list and over 400 species in his personal collection.

http://www.ammonite.ws/home.htm   This website has incredable pictures and identification information for Ammonites, fossil sharks, crustaceans, and corals of the United Kingdom.  I highly recommend you bookmark this growing website.

http://members.spree.com/education/boneman/  This sight displays some of Bob Levin's personal collection.  He has an impressive collection comparable to museum collections. Beautiful pictures.  A++ collection.

http://home-2.worldonline.nl/~cb005095/ This is a trading site produced by Albert Hendriks.  Albert specializes in the trading of fossil shark and ray teeth, echinoids, and related literature. Although I have not traded with Albert as of yet, he is on his way to developing a very nice website.  I would hope you would trade with him.
